Basic Student Training Requirements

All students conducting human subjects research must complete a brief training course on the protection of human subjects of research.  The basic online course will take most students about 30 minutes.

Registration directions can be downloaded HERE.

There is an online test.  Upon successful completion of the course, students and the IRB Chair will be sent an email with a completion certificate.

Courses are available online through the University's CITI subscription at no cost to UR students.  The course modules are offered by the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) based at the University of Miami.  Many major universities and colleges subscribe to the CITI training service.

While CITI courses are often thought by many to be interesting, some users regard the registration process to be cumbersome.  As of January 4, 2016 there have been 3,460 student CITI registrations, with most students successfully completing CITI training. However, every year some students will register for and take a CITI course which does not fulfill their requirements.  Please download the registration directions HERE to help ensure your successful registration. You may find it helpful to print the directions and follow them carefully while you register.

Please notify the IRB Chair of any questions, comments, or suggestions that you might have regarding the course and the registration directions.
