Proposal Amendments by Email

Many minor proposal amendments may be submitted by email to the IRB Chair or to and approved by the expedited review process. When emailing a proposal amendment to the IRB Chair, the principal investigator should cite the full name of the approved proposal and the date of its approval by the IRB.

When submitting amendments, researchers should only submit parts of the proposal that need to be changed.  For example, if a proposal included four survey instruments and only one of them is being amended, the researcher should only email the revised survey for which the amendment is being sought.  The accompanying email should briefly describe the amendment and the revised materials should highlight changes that are being submitted for IRB review.

If changes to the proposal are substantial and involve multiple changes, the researcher should resubmit the proposal via email with the revised sections highlighted.
