Directions for Students to Register for and Complete CITI Research Training for IRB
At the University of Richmond, all investigators (including students) conducting human subjects research must complete CITI online training. The CITI is the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative which provides online human subjects protections training to the University of Richmond. During the 2008-2009 academic year, over 400 students completed required CITI training modules.
All students conducting research with human subjects (including survey research) must complete required CITI training for students conducting no more than minimal risk research. Please download and print off the attached directions for student CITI registration. The registration process can be somewhat cumbersome so please follow the directions very carefully.
If you are required to take optional modules, depending on the nature of your research, you may take those modules only after completing the appropriate basic training modules described in the downloadable CITI registration instructions.
Please feel free to contact Kirk Jonas at 484-1565 regarding any questions that you may have on the registration or course completion process. I will be happy to walk you through the registration process online if necessary. You may also contact me at rjonas@richmond.edu .
Responsible Conduct of Research Training Required for National Science Foundation (NSF) Grants
Effective January 4, 2010 the National Science Foundation (NSF) is requiring that recipients of NSF funding have a plan in place for training undergraduates, graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in the responsible and ethical conduct of research. The University of Richmond RCR training plan was adopted on December 21, 2009. Please contact the University of Richmond Research Integrity Officer, Dr. R. Kirk Jonas, if you have any questions on the NSF requirement or the University of Richmond's plan. Information on how to register for the required responsible conduct of research course can be accessed HERE. The online course modules are available for free to members of the University of Richmond community.
